Frequently Asked Questions

What accessories should I send along with my shipment?
Please send the phone, battery, and back door. If you have a charger and don't need it, feel free to include it as well, although we don't pay extra for them. We'll find a good home for it. If you have a case on your phone, you can include it for protection during shipping, though we usually recycle phone cases rather than reselling them. Please DO NOT send printed manuals, software CD's, or original packaging/boxes.

Will you send me a shipping kit?
No. We've found that sending shipping kits to sellers is expensive, and we only get about half of them back. So we email shipping labels to sellers. It should be easy to find a small box or padded mailer to send your phone in. You will definitely need to be able to print the label we email to you. The good news is that you won't have to wait a week to receive your shipping kit.

How long will it take for me to get paid?
We ask for one week from the day we receive your device to inspect it and to process your payment. We'll keep you updated via email. Keep in mind the time it takes for your phone to reach us and for your check to reach you. Of course payments via PayPal will be quicker.

How do I know I will actually get paid and you're not going to just disappear with my money?
We've been buying phones for over a decade. Currently we buy most of our phones through a price aggregation web site that collects feedback for us. You can review the feedback at this link. Feel free to call us or email us to make sure you're comfortable with the fact that we're honest folks.

Why is your pricing higher at FairTradeCellular than on price aggregation web sites?
Those price aggregation web sites charge us a fee to show up in their searches. To be fair, they spend a lot of money on advertising. The best strategy is always to shop around for the best offer and work with people you trust, especially if you tend to sell a lot of phones and can figure out who the honest people are.

I can get more money for my phone selling it myself.
That's not a question! But we hear it all the time. And the honest answer is, yes, you can. We're going to sell your phone on eBay or on Craigslist. But it's a service we provide. We have a lot of experience, so we can probably sell your phone for more than you can. And we have to make a little bit of money, or we wouldn't be able to stay in business. If you're willing to take the time to set up an eBay account and a PayPal account or meet up with strangers from Craigslist, that's cool with us. We're trying to find the people who don't want to mess with any of that stuff. We'll do our best to have the highest price taking into consideration all of the costs that go into inspecting your phone, cleaning it, and selling it to someone else.
